Study in your own time

Exam delivery by Aigua Sea School

The Short Range Certificate for VHF/DSC marine radio is a mandatory certificate for commercial endorsements and qualifications such as Yachtmaster as well as being recommended for all yacht crew. This is offered as an online course through the RYA Interactive service, so you can study in your own time.

After you have completed your ‘pre-exam knowledge check’, please get in touch with Aigua Sea School to schedule your practical assessment. You’ll need to make payment for the practical exam fee on the RYA’s website before you arrive in order for them to send you the necessary paperwork.

Cost includes a course handbook.

What the course covers

Learn how to send distress and urgency messages, make inter-ship calls, what to say, how to say and when to say.

Upon registration you will be issued with a username and a password. When you enter your RYA Interactive portal you will see the courses you have registered for. Click on the VHF radio course and download the modules to work on. When all course modules have been completed, you can access the ‘pre-exam knowledge check’. This test must be satisfactorily completed, as the certificate issued is required for the licence application.
